Hi. I’m Michael Mills, former estate agent and now a photographer specialising in architectural, food and product photography in the beautiful South Hams, Devon. I began MJE Film and Photography in 2022, along with my wife, Janet and daughter, Ellie - hence MJE - to fulfil a long held desire to move into a field of work where I could satisfy my more creative side.

An area that had always struck me as being underrated in terms of its importance, is property photography. In a 25 year career that included selling multi-million pound houses and apartments in some of London’s most desirable locations, I have seen first-hand, over and over again, how outstanding photography can not only help secure a buyer, but also dramatically increase the speed at which this takes place - and possibly most importantly of all - generate an appreciably higher sale price than might otherwise have been achieved. It’s that experience in the industry that I believe gives me a unique perspective on the subject and sets me apart from other photographers.

Food and drink photography were a natural progression. As well as coming from a family where good food and cooking were central to our daily lives, I’m lucky enough to be married to one of the country’s leading home economists. What does this rather cryptic job title mean? Put simply, Janet writes the recipes, sources the ingredients and creates the finished dishes for a whole range of different media, be it TV, film, social media or marketing. This includes ten years as Lead Home Economist on the BBC show Saturday Kitchen. We now work together to offer a one-stop shop for food and drink styling and photography.

My own passion for photography began early and was definitely inspired by my late father, who’s Nikomat 35mm camera I’m looking at on my desk as I write this. This was cemented on a school trip to the Lake District, where the 10 year old me enthusiastically snapped away at anything that caught his eye with the cheap plastic camera acquired for me by my parents, ahead of the trip. I still have those prints, although the camera is sadly long gone.

Fast forward to the present day, and with a successful career in property behind me, my mission now is to provide clients with the highest quality, bespoke photography and video content. I strive to find compositions that are both captivating and contemporary, setting the subject apart from the competition, while working closely with my clients to ensure their goals for the project are completely fulfilled.

Get in touch with me by email or phone to find out how MJE Film + Photography can help get your next project moving forward.

I hope to speak to you soon.
